Southerland Votes to Repeal Military COLA Cuts

Press Release

U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, II voted today to eliminate cuts in the cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) for all military retirees. The legislation, which passed the House by a bipartisan 326 -- 90 -- 1 margin, now awaits consideration in the Senate.

"When the House approved the Bipartisan Budget Act, I made clear my commitment to doing all I could to restore the full cost-of-living adjustments for our military retirees," said Southerland. "That's why I am proud that a bipartisan majority of the House joined me in ensuring the federal government does right by the heroes who sacrificed so much in defense of our freedoms by eliminating the current COLA cuts."

In December, Rep. Southerland joined House Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller (R-FL) in introducing legislation to eliminate cuts in the cost-of-living adjustments for military retirees (H.R. 3790).
